Once again, Kunstverein Tiergarten invites you to this year's ORTSTERMIN art festival. From 20 to 22 September 2024, artists and cultural professionals in Moabit and the Hansaviertel will open their doors and present their works and projects. This year's festival is dedicated to the provocative and multi-layered topic Fleisch – a term that not only refers to food, but also reflects ethical, cultural and historical dimensions. Foods derived from animals have a special status that is embedded in a cultural system of values, traditions and symbols. The handling of meat differs in different religions and cultures. It is associated with specific rules, customs and taboos or ideas of purity. Flesh structures our imagination of interpersonal relationships - from romantic partners to family ties - and also symbolises a patriarchal world view that manifests itself on all levels. You are invited to explore these and many other levels in and with the participants’ works.
While the special exhibition in the flesh at the Erlöserkirche focuses on the human dimensions of the carnal, piece of meat at Haus Kunst Mitte - House for Contemporary Art considers the reinterpretation of the animal from living being to product, serving as an entry point to the wide-ranging thematic network between humans and animals. This is also one of many starting points for the numerous tours through Moabit and the Hansaviertel neighbourhood that are dedicated to various meaty aspects.
We look forward to seeing you there and hope you enjoy exploring the neighbourhood again. Join us and discover how the past and present manifest themselves in a neighbourhood that is linked to the topic of Fleisch like no other!
Your festival team
Nikolas Geier, Anna Latzko and Monique Machicao y Priemer Ferrufino
Festival photographers will be on site to document the events and places. Any photos taken may be used for public relations purposes. You have the right to object to the use of photos depicting you, which you can assert against the photographers or at ortstermin@kunstverein-tiergarten.de.
